Established in 1965 as Carraig Donn Manufacturing by the Hughes family in Westport Co Mayo, Aran Woollen Mills (AWM) embodies a rich legacy of Irish craft and heritage. Founded by Maura Hughes and her husband Padraig, the business began as a true family endeavor, with all members actively involved in various aspects, from product development to distribution. Initially specializing in hand-knit Aran sweaters and other woolen goods, AWM fostered local employment by engaging over a hundred workers along the West Coast who crafted products in their homes. Over the years, the business has flourished, expanding its operations to Bellmullet while maintaining its commitment to quality, sustainability, and supporting skilled Irish jobs. With over 100 employees and ambitious growth plans, AWM continues to weave its story of tradition and innovation, inviting others to join its journey.
