With a perfect balance between the comfort of cotton and the lightness of linen, here at Aran Woollen Mills’ we’re reimagining the world of Aran knitwear with our new Cotton-Linen collection. For so long, we have been searching for solutions to help our customers experience a lighter, gentler Aran experience in the warmer months, without compromising on the cosiness and comfort that every piece in our collection brings. Finally, with a unique yarn, spun only for us, we are so proud to introduce a stunning new collection that allows us to offer the whole package. This process has been a labour of love, as we experimented, researched and unearthed the perfect yarn that would not only feel incredible on the skin, but look equally stunning on the wearer and we’re so excited to share it with you.
COTTON-LINEN YARN
Traditional Aran knitwear is known for its beauty, cosiness, and sustainable durability. That’s what we’re all about here at Aran Woollen Mills. However, we also knew that we could offer our wearers all the magic of Aran knitwear even when they’re not in need of thick, weather-durable pieces. We wanted to find a way to design pieces that simultaneously kept the magic of Aran craftmanship alive while giving our wearers a few versatile pieces that can be worn on their own in the hot summer months and layered during the colder months, allowing your capsule wardrobe the chance to work a little harder for you. Through this process, we discovered the beauty and comfort of the perfect cotton-linen blend. Each garment in this collection is lovingly crafted with 70% cotton and 30% linen, giving each piece the gentleness of a high-quality cotton on the skin with the breathability and airy feel of linen. This luxurious yarn is soft to the touch and is the perfect example of gentle, sustainable and long-lasting luxury, helping you build a more earth-friendly wardrobe. We have chosen a colour palette that boasts two creamy, oat shades as we felt this speaks to the magic of Aran’s traditional colour palette while simultaneously bringing you a fresh and light tone to play with. This yarn in all its simplicity, truly has buckets of personality and we’re so proud to share it with you.
DESIGNED WITH NATURE IN MIND
Every piece here at Aran Woollen Mills begins with our core pillars of inspiration. We want to craft heritage pieces that keep the Aran tradition alive and thriving. We want to celebrate nature and the natural world, crafting pieces that are sustainable and naturally sourced. And we want to embody the spirit of Ireland, creating pieces that help people feel connected to our culture, our warmth and our experience. The Cotton-Linen collection is no different. When designing each piece for this collection, we were led with the idea that every garment should feel natural, simple and indicative of femininity and elegance. Within this collection, the creamy colour palette brings us to the sandy beaches of our coastlines and reminds us of our connection to the sea through the Aran tradition. Often, each button is unique, reminding us of the treasure trove of seashells, sparkling stones and mountain ranges we have the pleasure of experiencing here in Ireland. Each piece experiments with structure and shape, much like our patchwork landscape you’ll notice from a bird's eye view. And of course, the magic and tradition of Aran stitching is still maintained, albeit in a much more simple and elegant way. Every facet of our cotton-linen collection embodies the spirit of Aran and our proud tradition. The only difference is that the tradition is finding a new place in our modern wardrobe, moving with our ever-changing world and yet remaining grounded in our values.
STYLING THE COLLECTION
One of the most exciting things about the Cotton-Linen collection is how versatile each and every piece is. Although we were inspired by these pieces becoming part of your spring/summer wardrobe, we wanted to ensure each garment could be reworked into your autumn/winter wardrobe to ensure you’re getting the most from your piece. For example, we have the stunningly beautiful Ainé Cotton-Linen Sleeveless Cardigan. This piece is a perfect way to stay cool in the warmer months, but can also be worn on top of a long-sleeved tee in the winter. Or the gentle and subtle, Epona hip length cotton-linen cardigan, which is the perfect piece to bring with you for some comfort on summer evening walks, yet simultaneously, could be enjoyed during the winter while relaxing by a flickering fire. With the gentle, neutral colour palette, each piece within this collection speaks to all seasons and allows you to choose sustainability, every time.
